What does it mean to set an M-PESA phone number as free?

Transfers to this number will incur zero fees. You can set one phone number as free within your M-PESA phone settlement accounts. You can change this number, but only once every 30 days.

How can I set an M-PESA phone number as free?

1. Sign in to your account.

2. Tap on ‘Move Money.’

3. Tap the three dots at the top and select 'My accounts.'

4. Choose the number you want to nominate as free.

5. Tap the three dots at the top again and select 'Nominate as free.'

4. Choose the number you want to set as free.
5. Click the gear icon.

Can I set an M-PESA phone number to have zero fees on USSD?

You can only nominate an M-PESA phone number to have zero fees on Android or Web app. Please contact our support team for further assistance.

Yes, you can change the free M-PESA phone number, but only once every 30 days.

What happens if I have more than one M-PESA settlement phone number?

Only one M-PESA number can have zero fees at a time. If you have more than one settlement phone number, you can change the free number every 30 days.

How will I know which M-PESA phone number is currently set as free?

The currently set free M-PESA phone number will be visible in your account under the My M-PESA Phones section.
