What are Payment Links?

Payment Links let you request money via M-PESA on WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, SMS, email or anywhere else you talk to your customers.

How is the payment experience for my customers?

They simply tap the link, it opens in their browser, they enter their M-PESA number and complete payment.

How long does a Payment Link remain active?

Each link is valid for 7 days before expiry.

Can the same link be used multiple times?

No. Each link can only be used once and this helps avoid duplicate payments.

Can I cancel a Payment Link after sharing it?

Yes. If your customer pays you through another method, you can cancel the link so it cannot be used again.

What if my customer puts the wrong M-PESA PIN?

They have up to 3 attempts. After that, the link becomes invalid and you will need to create a new one

Are there extra charges for Payment Links?

No extra charges. Customers only pay the normal Lipa na M-PESA transaction fee.

When should I use Payment Links?

For bookings, invoice payments, deliveries, online sales (Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok), or when selling on credit.

What if I am with the customer and need instant payment?

Use the Instant M-PESA Prompt feature to request and receive payment right away.

How do I know if I have received a payment?

You will see the status update marked as “Paid” in your mobile or web app, and you will also get a notification when a customer pays.
